This, Too, Shall Pass

When Sarah and I started this blog a few years back we decided we wanted to be a happy place for people to visit. A place where everyone could read positive and uplifting stories. Stories that would inspire, stories that would teach you something new, and stories that would build the world up. We still feel that way in defiance of the menace known worldwide as CO-VID 19.

The past few weeks and days have been challenging, there is no doubt, and I know many people are worried/concerned/anxious/stressed/whatever-emotion-you-are-feeling. All of those emotions are ‘normal’ (whatever that means :-) and everyone’s feelings fluctuate depending on the day and what’s happening for you and yours.

In keeping with our philosophy of “finding-the-joy” I’d like to offer up some small ways you can feel better right now:

  • It is important to be aware but you don’t have to constantly read updates. The information tends to stay the same on most days … so once or twice a day is sufficient.

  • Get your information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) not the valedictorian of your high school, or your neighbor, or SnapChat, etc. Those inaccurate speculations are not helping you or me or the world.

  • Remember that we are all in this together. You really don’t need all the toilet paper, hand sanitizer, soap, etc.

What can you do?

  • Be grateful that we live in a time when many can work from home. (I know this has huge economic implications for us all. I am a small business owner who will be unable to work for at least two weeks which means zero income for me for a bit...so, I get it.)

  • Be grateful that we live in a country that is working very hard to keep all of us safe.

  • Visit a neighbor and make sure they have everything they need.

  • Share!

  • Enjoy spending time with your family at home: play board games, assemble puzzles, make cookies.

  • Clean the house and mow the lawn.

  • Read a book or magazine.

  • Binge-watch all that stuff in your Netflix queue.

  • Write letters and send cards. Mail is still so much fun!

During difficult times it is more important than ever to find the good, to be the good, and to remain calm.
