We’ve been going on picnics forever and can never seem to get enough of the fun of a packed basket, the great outdoors, and a short drive out of town. But what do you do when you’ve waited all week for Saturday and it is raining, snowing, or just too yucky outside?
How about an indoor picnic? Why stop the fun when you can still enjoy a day with loved ones, no screens, and spread a blanket on your own floor? Sounds like an adventure, doesn’t it?
Here’s what we did on a very wet day that made an outdoor event impossible.
Set your blanket up away from the TV.
Create a space, like having your picnic set-up by the fireplace, which feels cozier and like bringing the outdoors inside. If you are lucky enough to have a room in your home that you use infrequently, set up your picnic fun in that space.
Load your basket, just like you would if you were going away.
If you forget something try to improvise rather than running to your kitchen.
Since you cannot play badminton or Frisbee, bring out a board game and while away the afternoon with old school Monopoly or Yahtzee. A deck of cards fits nicely into a picnic basket for an indoor or outdoor picnic.
Take a nap right there on your floor.
Stare at your ceiling and pretend you are seeing clouds.
Open your windows and listen for birds or watch the squirrels.
Picnics are such a nice way to step away from the busyness of day-to-day living and get us all outdoors in the world and away from all the things that distract us.
