The Easiest Doughnuts

When I was a kid Krispy-Kreme Doughnuts were the carrot for everything: sit still in church and we’ll stop for doughnuts in the way home; do good in school and we’ll stop for doughnuts on the way home. Whatever is was, the doughnut stop was the prize … and not just any doughnut ... it was always Krispy-Kreme! Plain glazed or chocolate covered glazed were our favorites but every once in a while we might spring for an assorted dozen that included a few powdered sugar cake doughnuts, possibly a raspberry filled, or an old-fashioned cruller. All delicious!

Today, the closest Krispy-Kreme is too far away so when I crave “hot doughnuts now” I’ve found an easy way to make them in a flash with just a can of store bought biscuits.

Here’s how simple it is:

  • 1 can store bought biscuits

  • Frying pan with about 2 inches of vegetable oil

  • 4 tablespoons of powdered sugar

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  1. Open the can of biscuits and spread them out onto waxed paper.

  2. Cut a hole in each biscuit - use these to make doughnut holes.

  3. While the oil heats, sift the powdered sugar onto a plate. Put the granulated sugar and cinnamon on another plate.

  4. Test the oil by dropping one of the doughnut holes into the oil. If it immediately starts to sizzle the oil is ready.

  5. Drop each doughnut into the oil, cook until brown on that side, and turn over. Continue cooking on the other side, remove from oil.

  6. Remove the hot doughnuts to each plate and cover all sides of the doughnuts with the sugars.

  7. Enjoy! Delicious when hot!
