Target: Why Don't Men Get It?

Get it?

Whenever my husband goes out to run an errand he always asks, “You wanna go with me?” My response is always the same, “Depends. Where ya going?” Sometimes his answer is simple:

Ace Hardware: “Oh, yes, I will go.” I love hardware stores!

Costco: that’s a BIG FAT “NO” because it takes so long. (My husband LOVES Costco so I like to let him have his private moments there.)

Publix: always a “Yes.” I love grocery stores too and Publix is a dreamy grocery store.

Finally,

Walmart: that’s a“No.” I like Walmart but I don’t understand why anyone would go there when there is a Target nearby.

I say this to my husband about Walmart/Target and he says, “It’s the same thing.” WHAT?? Every woman I know knows there is a difference between Walmart and Target. It’s just different. I like Walmart and go there frequently too but Target….well, it’s Target. It’s just different. I can get a cup of coffee and leisurely walk the aisles, enjoying everything from housewares to clothes, Chip & Joanna Gaines stuff to the always-too-early-holiday decorations. It is a store I just love spending time in.

When my daughter studied abroad during college she had a lovely teacher in Spain. Whenever the students would complain or suggest that they didn’t like something or understand something she would say, “It’s not bad, it’s just different.” This is one of the wisest statements I have ever heard and we all say it all the time now applying it to virtually everything.

Today, I am applying it to the relationship between Walmart and Target: “It’s not bad, it’s just different.”

I wish that I could accurately describe why I so clearly prefer one to the other but I can’t really explain it. It is just something I know deep in my gut that Target is my preferred store with it’s Starbucks Coffee Shop and wider aisles. Maybe it’s the wine selection. I’m not sure. It’s like a lot of other things I don’t really understand. Maybe it’s best not to think about it that hard!

I LOVE Target!!!! I always make it at point to go when I don't have to hurry. I like to take my time and look at all the departments. Clothing, bedding, bath, kitchen, seasonal, movies/books, gift wrap/office supplies. and let's not for get the $1.00 bins right by the front door as you walk in, or the clearance shelves at the end of the aisles in the different departments!
