Stitch Fix

If you follow Come On In Blog on Instagram (@comeoninblog), you know that recently we both tried Stitch Fix.

Stitch Fix is a clothing delivery service that works within your style and budget. I decided to give it a try for a couple of reasons:

  • I hate clothes shopping, and this seemed like a great way to avoid that process.

  • It occurred to me that many things in my closet didn’t look like I bought them- they all had a time and place, but they weren’t appropriate to the current time in my life.

  • It’s convenient and I can set the budget, meaning I won’t splurge or impulse buy anything I don’t need or really want. This is helpful when you’re on a budget.

...So I donated a bunch of clothing to our local women’s shelter, and I started shopping in a new way.

The process was extremely detailed. When you sign up, you fill out a questionnaire about everything from what size you wear to whether or not you like to show your arms off. You check off brands you like and styles that suit you. It was fun!

Next, you set your budget for individual items- how much do you want to spend on tops? Pants? Blazers? I loved this feature- I am working on a budget but still want to update my look, and this allowed me to do that.

Finally, the site shows you a few looks and asks you to give them a thumbs up or a thumbs down to get even more of a sense of what you like. And that’s it! Now you sit back and wait for your box.

My box arrived very quickly, which was thrilling. It contained 5 items: a necklace, a pair of pants, 2 shirts, and a wrap dress. All were within the budgets I had set and each piece was made of quality materials. There was 1 shirt I didn’t love, but considering that this was my first order ever, I thought an 80% success rate was pretty good.

The process was easy and fun! Most importantly, it made me enjoy the shopping process more than I had in a long time. There were no salespeople, no dressing rooms, no pressure. I simply tried everything on in the comfort of my bedroom, and kept what I wanted. It was also a huge time saver- I didn’t have to rush anywhere after work, I just tried things on when I had time.

If you’re looking for a simple way to update your wardrobe, I would definitely recommend giving Stitch Fix a try!

*This is not an ad- I just really loved the experience!

From Angela:

I agree with everything Sarah has already said here but wanted to add a few additional thoughts.

For me, Stitch Fix is allowing me to step out of my “uniform-type” wardrobe and try new things that I wouldn’t otherwise even try on in a store. Here’s a good example of what it is doing for me...

One day Sarah and I were out shopping and I pulled a blouse off a rack and said, “Do you like this? I think I like it.” My wonderful daughter responded with, “Mom, you like it because you already own it!” No kidding? This is me … constantly gravitating towards the exact same clothing items. I have a closet crammed with jeans, pullover sweaters for winter, and breezy shirts for summer. I am a creature of habit!

Bottom line -

  • My Stitch Fix experience has been very good.

  • It is making me try new things.

  • Everything is within the budget I provided them.

  • If anything comes that I do not like, I can bundle it up in the prepaid envelope they send with each shipment and drop it in my mailbox!
