Shoes Made Out of Water Bottles

In my last post I added a story about how awful shoes can be. I’ve rarely found a shoe that is comfortable and cute, at the same time …. (drumroll, please) UNTIL NOW!

The online company called Rothys (rothys.com) makes three styles of adorable flats OUT OF RECYCLED WATER BOTTLES! Anyone who knows me longer than 5 minutes knows my neurotic obsession with recycling so you can imagine that I LOVE THIS COMPANY! (Yes, I am screaming right now with joy!!)

Until I owned my first pair, I just loved them on principle alone, now that mine have arrived and I’ve worn them all day, I am smitten!

Here’s the scoop:

  • The company makes 3 styles: a pointy toed flat (see mine here), a round toed ballet flat, and a loafer in a wide variety of adorable colors suitable for all year long.

  • They are machine washable - that’s right - you can throw them in your washing machine because they are made out of plastic bottles! (Air dry only.)

  • The Rothy’s company has reused over 6 million water bottles that would have ended up in our beautiful earth.

  • Depending upon what you typically pay for shoes you might consider these pricey but I feel they are worth the investment. They run $125-$165 and since plastic doesn’t biodegrade they will last you a lifetime!

  • The shoes feel like cloth. They do NOT feel at all like plastic, no kidding!

  • Ordering online is very simple, returns are easy too.

  • In my case, the shoes run ‘true to size.’ I’m a size 8, which is what I ordered and they fit perfectly.

  • They are really cute, seriously cute!

I love when a company does the right thing and tries to make a difference. That kind of commitment speaks to me on a different spiritual and emotional level and I want to support them in their efforts to make a positive difference in the world. Such a simple thing!

I love my new shoes and I’d be happy to answer any questions you might have about them.

I wore mine the day after they came in the mail and had no problems at all. Now, I sit most of the day so that could make a difference. It is so surprising how they feel...it is just like fabric which provides a lot of comfortable give. I am going to get the loafers next and will let you know how those work. I have foot problems - one broken foot several years ago and the other one had surgery years ago so my feet are especially weird - yet I do not have any problems with these shoes at all. My psychotic need to recycle might be creating a bias but I just think they really are comfortable…

Um, DYING for a pair of these! I had them on my holiday list last year and bailed, which I regret. I feel like finding a pair of comfy flats is the holy grail. Since I'm ready to ditch heels for good, I feel like these pointy-toe ones are perf as they still look so professional. I have read a lot of online reviews and a few people mentioned blisters until they were worn in. Have you found that to be the case?
