Salt Therapy

I have fairly aggravating allergies. Once spring hits, I basically sneeze until fall rolls around. Two years ago my allergies were particularly bad, so I decided to try a salt bed chamber therapy session.

The salt therapy bed chamber thingy

Salt therapy is a non-invasive, chemical-free way to address all kinds of health concerns: allergies, skin conditions, and asthma being the most common. The idea is that the salt air reduces inflammation within your body, helping to ease some of these issues. A salt bed chamber is basically a tube (like a tanning bed without the tanning elements) with a bed of salt rocks in the bottom and a valve that pumps in salty air. You lay in the chamber for 20ish minutes and breathe deeply.

I booked this appointment knowing basically nothing about salt therapy. That’s kind of classic Sarah- if it sounds cool and kind of unnecessary, I will try it.

After changing into a robe, I was led to the salt bed chamber room. And full disclosure...I kinda started freaking out. The tube looked...well, it looked like a see through coffin. I decided to lay in the chamber and not close the top all the way so I could get used to the sensation.

Skeptical Sarah

There was a pad on top of the salt rocks, and laying there was fairly comfortable. The lights in the room dimmed and spa-like music was playing softly. Despite myself, I began to relax a little. The salty air was being pumped in and I was breathing much more deeply than I had been. I decided to close the lid all the way for the rest of the session.

Once my time was up, I changed and was given a green juice to promote...I’m not sure what, but probably...health?

This experience was fun and truly bizarre. I enjoy challenging myself with experiences that are a little outside of my comfort zone, and this was certainly out there. Once I let myself fully relax, I found the experience enjoyable.

Did it help my allergies?

...to be completely honest with you, I didn’t really notice any difference post-treatment. But I tried something new and got to sit still for 20 minutes, which was valuable in its own way.
