This is really and truly the easiest, yet most impressive, dessert I have ever made. With its beautiful French name, that I cannot properly pronounce, it sounds so hard but it’s NOT! You can make it too and awe your friends and family! I made it several times to try-it-out and my husband liked every version of it! Here’s all you need to do …
For the pastry:
1 package of puff pastry
¼ cup of sugar
Unfold the puff pastry. Using a rolling pin roll to desired thickness.
Cut into whatever shape you like using a serrated knife or a cookie cutter.
Place the pastry on a silicone lined or parchment-lined sheet tray.
Sprinkle each piece of pastry lightly with sugar.
Using a fork, poke holes all over each piece of pastry (this is called blocking and keeps the pastry from rising).
Place a sheet of parchment on top of the pastry and top with another sheet tray to keep it from rising.
Bake for about 10-15 minutes at 350 degrees. About ½ way through the baking time carefully lift the top sheet tray and check the pastry for doneness. You want them to be lightly browned.
When cooked, remove from the oven and set aside to cool.
For the whipped cream:
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1-2 tablespoons of powdered sugar - this is up to your individual taste
A good sprinkle or two of cinnamon
½ teaspoon vanilla
Put everything in a stand mixer and whir it around until it turns into whipped cream.
(You can also use the canned stuff but why would you when this is so easy and tasty?)
For the fruit:
Cut whatever fruits you wish to use into bite sized pieces.
For the assembly:
Starting with a cooked piece of pastry, smear it with whipped cream, top with fresh fruit.
Take a second piece of pastry and smear the top and bottom with whipped cream and place it on top of the fruit. Keep doing this until you reach the desired height you want.
For the final piece of pastry, smear only the bottom with whipped cream, and place it on the top.
Decorate however you wish.
Sprinkle the finished product with powdered sugar or cocoa powder, sprinkles, or shaved chocolate.
