Several years go a friend sent me an introductory meal delivery box (pictured above). Like most people, I am busy, and she thought this would be a great way for me to make delicious meals at the end of my busy days. Here’s my opinion of the pros and cons of this new system, that seems to be everywhere:
Pros:
The food was organic and healthy
It was easy to put the meal together
Everything you need is included in the box
Cons:
There’s no leftovers for lunch or snacks
If you enjoy cooking, it is too simplistic
Not more delicious than cooking from scratch
My grocer sells organic at lower prices
Shopping local helps our local economy
Farmers' markets need our support
You don’t learn anything new about cooking
It’s expensive compared to grocery shopping
Creates a LOT of garbage*
I know many people do not enjoy cooking but I think it’s because they don’t really know easy ways to create quick or healthy meals. It is not that hard and there’s so many great resources that will help you through:
www.comeoninblog.com - that’s us! And we can teach you lots of easy cooking techniques!
www.foodnetwork.com - lots of great stuff online, including full videos.
www.publix.com/cookingschool - we’ve taken these affordable classes and learned lots!
www.brownskitchen.com - this local Tallahassee store teaches classes by local chefs.
www.relishthomasville.com - this shop, just down the road, sells excellent kitchen wares!
For me, there is something very satisfying about making something homemade, especially for my always appreciative family and friends. In a time when it seems like everything is already made for us from every piece of clothing we wear to every single thing we eat it is so gratifying to do something real and from scratch.
Check out some cooking opportunities and learn how to return happily to your own kitchen! I think you’ll be glad you did!
*Everything in the box is recyclable (which you KNOW is important to me) and we have a fabulous recycling program where I live but many places do not currently have recycling and gobs of trash ends up in a landfill (AKA: our beautiful Earth). Groceries do not create as much trash.
