McGuire’s is this totally over-the-top, gotta see it to believe it type of restaurant in Pensacola, FL. It is a tourist trap but locals love it too- a very rare combination! McGuire’s opened in 1977 and was an instant sensation. The place has a loony sense of humor and practically begs you to eat too much and drink a little too much, too.
Years ago, people started signing $1 bills and tacking them to the walls of the restaurant. Today, there is over $1 million (yes, you read that correctly) in small bills stapled all over every inch of the place. It is bizarre and tacky and absolutely mesmerizing- this restaurant is truly one of a kind.
The most surprising part of the whole experience is the food. It is really, really, really good, and quite frankly, it doesn’t have to be. The atmosphere and decor are enough to get people in the door, but the reason it continues to be successful and attract locals and visitors alike is the absolutely incredible food. Almost everything is made from scratch, aged in house, brewed in house, or locally sourced. The sandwiches are piled with pounds of meats and cheeses. The steaks have won statewide recognition as some of the best in the south. The traditional pub fare is second to none.
McGuire’s is a must-visit if you’re ever in the Pensacola area. It is 100% worth any wait to get a table. Just be sure you go hungry- as our waitress said recently: “We’ll feed you until you pop!”
