How To: Snack Plates

One of my favorite meals is a snack plate- a little of this, a little of that, all on one happy dish. Snack plates are a weeknight regular at our house. They’re a great way to utilize leftovers and a fun way to try a little bit of everything.

In restaurants, you may see charcuterie boards (meat plates) or cheese boards (cheese plates) on the menu. This is kind of like that but less...formal :)

Recently I was spending an evening with a girlfriend of mine. ...And no hang time with us is complete without wine and snacks

This is a photo of what I brought over. It looks way more impressive than it is; it is in fact just stuff I already had in my fridge.

I like to build snack plates around something. In this case, I used Sabra hummus as my centerpiece. If you’re fancy, spoon that hummus into a dish. If you’re like me, leave it in that plastic.

Around the circle clockwise from the top:

  • Roasted chicken from a rotisserie chicken I purchased at the grocery store earlier in the week- great for weeknight meals!

  • Jaffa Cakes- delicious British cookies with a spongy cake bottom, orange marmalade center, covered in chocolate

  • Pistachios

  • Green olives- I believe these are cerignola olives

  • Sliced cheese

  • Pickled artichoke hearts- they have these on our grocery store’s olive bar

  • Grapes

  • Pretzels

  • Diced up dill pickles

  • Peanuts

  • Ritz crackers

This may not be the most refined meal, but it was delicious. When making your snack plates, remember to have something salty, something sweet, something savory or tangy, and several different textures to choose from.

If you’re throwing a nice party, spoon everything into pretty serving dishes and cut things into bite sized pieces that are easy to grab. Have fun with your plates- add a theme (fiesta!) or a country of origin to try different goodies from (a Greek themed snack plate sounds heavenly).

Have fun with it and don’t stress! It’s snacks, so people will love it :)

I agree with Sarah that this is an easy and enjoyable way to enjoy company, and evening watching tv, or just a quick way to put a meal together. In our hot climate in Florida it is also nice to put together a cool and refreshing dinner that doesn't involve turning on the oven! Bon appetite!
