As you know, I am all about home delivery meal kits. I have been very satisfied with Blue Apron, but I recently had the opportunity to try Hello Fresh and jumped on it.
Hello Fresh is a meal kit delivery service that offers many tasty recipe options ranging from family friendly to calorie conscious to classic meals. I tried the 3 meals classic plan for two, which was about $60 ($10/meal). Hello Fresh offers upgrade options like craft burger recipes, fruit trays, and desserts for a small additional fee.
There are a lot of meal choices on Hello Fresh, which is great if you are looking to please different tastes. The recipes are slightly more straightforward than Blue Apron; a little less adventurous, a little more familiar. The quality of the ingredients is great- the vegetables were fresh and the meats were tasty. I liked the way Hello Fresh packaged meals as well. Each is in its own individual bag, making it easy to grab and get started without sorting through ingredients. The down side with this is if a bag contains breads, buns, etc. you will need to break open the package and remove them so they don’t dry out in the fridge.
We tried 3 meals: Baconlicious Burgers (bacon-gouda burgers served with a wedge salad and roasted potatoes), Carnitas Tacos, and Creamy Chive Chicken (served with rice and mustard greens with apple salad).
All the meals were delicious, however, I believe Blue Apron edges out Hello Fresh just a little for us. Blue Apron goes the extra mile to include exotic ingredients and side items that make a big difference (like a citrus wedge for garnish). Blue Apron is slightly more expensive (about $50/2 meals for 2 people), but I believe the difference is worth it.
Both kits are very worth trying. Let me know what you think!
