Delicious Drinks

Wine...on a plane!

I really enjoy what I have always referred to as “a tasty beverage.” I know that in our hyper-conscious health world it may not be very popular to espouse the virtues of an alcoholic beverage but I am doing it anyway because I’ve always believed that anything done in moderation is usually fine. Now, I am not a doctor so continue reading at your own risk!

Sitting with a family member or a friend and enjoying ‘a tasty beverage’ is one of life’s great pleasures and one that I look forward to when we have long weekends, or holidays because we have the time to savor our time together and our beverages. My goal, our goal, is never to become intoxicated or miserable the next day but to simply enjoy time together.

Mimosa, anyone?

I didn’t grow up in a household with drinkers so when I turned 18, the legal drinking age then, I did a lot of stupid things with alcohol - really stupid things. Fortunately for me and the rest of the world, no one was harmed by my stupidity.* Long story short, I did not know how to drink appropriately until I was much much older.

Today, I look forward to spending time with loved ones and inventing new ways to mix a luscious cocktail using a wide variety of ingredients. There’s so many mouthwatering components to choose from that can be purchased at your local grocery store or online - it’s definitely not your momma’s 1960’s Jack and Coke world anymore! Imbibing has become an art form with bartenders far and near making festive and fancy concoctions with assorted bitters, smoke, fresh fruits and fresh herbs, and some Bloody Mary’s even come with a full meal attached to a stir stick!! It’s a delicious world!

Like a trip to the beach

When the weather is nice we especially enjoy sitting in the yard and taking the time to make a special drink that is usually concocted by dumping a bunch of stuff on the kitchen counter, pulling out some kind of alcohol, and simply thinking about what sounds good. It could be a new type of martini or margarita, a festive frozen drink, or just an ice cold beer.

The best part of the whole process is really the opportunity to spend time with the people we love. Cheers!

Here’s a few of our favorite tasty beverages:

French 75

1 ounce of gin

½ ounce of fresh lemon juice

About a teaspoon or two of simple syrup (depending on how sweet you like your drinks)

2 ounces of champagne, or other sparkling wine

In a cocktail shaker mix the gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup with ice. Shake about 30 seconds. Strain into a champagne glass (I prefer the old fashioned coupe style glass), and top with champagne. Cut a piece of lemon peel and drop it in the glass for garnish. Cheers!

French 75 (left), Manhattan (right)

Cosmo

1 ounce of vodka

2 ounces cranberry juice

½ a lime, juiced

Add all of the ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake about 30 seconds, then pour into a chilled martini glass. Cheers!

Don't let the barware be a hang up- it tastes delicious in any glass

*I do not wish to make light of drinking as I am aware there are many problems with poor choices. One of the greatest things about our modern world is that NO ONE EVER has to drive after drinking. Put the Uber, Lyft, or local taxi app/number in your phone for easy access. Save your life and someone else’s!

OMG I love this post and the fabulous idea behind it!! I too love a tasty beverage. My personal favorite is a Margarita or Bloody Mary. Nothing more enjoyable then not being on a schedule and sitting down with someone that means a lot to you with a tasty beverage and catching up. Cheers ladies!!!
