Crack(ers)

I read about this simple snack/side/addiction in Mary Laura Philpott’s delightful book, I Miss You When I Blink.

  • 1 sleeve of saltine crackers

  • 1 stick of melted butter

  • 2 teaspoons of assorted mixed spices and herbs - I use garlic salt, pepper, dried parsley, dried thyme, dried basil

  1. Melt the butter. Add the spices and herbs, mix.

  2. Dip the crackers into the butter mixture, remove with a fork, and place them on a cooling rack over a sheet tray.

  3. Bake at 275 degrees for about 20 minutes. Best when warm.

  4. Fight off the people around you that want to eat them all!

By the way, if you haven’t read I Miss You When I Blink you should run, not walk, to your nearest bookstore and grab yourself a copy of this wonderful memoir. While reading it I often felt like the author was walking around in my own head saying things I couldn’t articulate and expressing feelings I’ve felt hundreds of times. She is a beautiful writer who reaches in and touches the heart and soul
