Cooked Apples

The quintessential fall dessert

This is something I make when I have a bunch of apples and not enough time to eat them all. In the fall, apples are so delicious and make a great side dish that goes especially well with pork. This is kind of a recipe without much of a recipe.

Cooked Apples

  • 2-4 apples, cored and cut into slices

  • 2 tablespoons of butter

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 tablespoon of sugar, or more or less to taste

  • A smidge of freshly grated nutmeg

  • A pinch of salt

  1. Melt the butter in a non-stick skillet.

  2. Add all of the apples at one time, making sure each piece gets coated with the butter.

  3. Add the remaining ingredients and cook over low heat until the apples reach desired tenderness.

  4. Serve and enjoy!

The spices in this recipe are up to you and your personal taste. I like more nutmeg and less sugar because apples are usually very sweet and don’t require too much sugar. We also like them tender but not mushy which simply requires watching them and tasting them along the way.
