Ina Garten is the queen: she always makes delicious food, dresses in a casual yet chic way, and leads an extremely glamorous yet somehow relatable life. I love her (and Jeffrey).
I recently started cooking from her classic cookbook, How Easy It That? It is a wonderful book filled with recipes that make weeknights seem special.
The recipes are easy- Ina highlights 3-4 ingredients in each dish and keeps the cooking time to a manageable level. She takes the mundane (a chicken breast) and turns it into something decadent (chicken with lemon caper sauce). I’d call Ina’s style of cooking “healthy-ish”.
She has several salad recipes, but they include luxurious ingredients like goat cheese and pomegranate seeds, which makes them feel special. Her cocktails are substantially boozy and pair well the recipes she has for bar bites.
...but my favorite section of the book is the mains. I turn to this book again and again when I want to impress my guests or mix things up for my husband and I. Ina truly has a recipe in here for everyone, touching on nearly all types of meat and several different vegetables. She makes sauces seem like anyone can do them, and roulades look like a breeze. In the immortal words of Ina: How Easy Is That?
5 stars!
