Chocolate Chip Cookies

Homemade chocolate chip cookies

Is there anything more satisfying than a homemade chocolate chip cookie? No, there really isn’t! They evoke memories of childhood, special holidays, and comfort! Here’s my favorite recipe for this most comforting cookie that fills your home with a glorious aroma.

2 cups + 3 tablespoons of flour

¾ teaspoon of salt

¾ teaspoon of baking soda

2 sticks of room temperature butter

1 cup of sugar

⅓ cup of brown sugar

2 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla

1 ½ cups of semisweet chocolate chips

¾ - 1 cup of chopped walnuts or pecans

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with silicone baking mats or parchment and set aside.

  2. Put the butter in a mixing bowl and whip for about 30 seconds. Add the sugars and whip until light and fluffy - this will take several minutes.

  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, until fully incorporated. Add the vanilla and mix.

  4. Sift together the flour, salt, baking soda.

  5. Add the flour to the butter mixture in 2 batches, mixing until it just comes together.

  6. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts.

  7. Scoop onto the baking sheets and bake for about 12 minutes. If you like them soft and chewy they will be finished in about 12 minutes, if you like them crispy it will take about 15 minutes but keep an eye on them.

  8. Cool on the baking sheet for about 2 minutes, remove to a wire rack.

  9. Enjoy!

One of my favorite kitchen tools is my cookie scoop pictured here. It is similar to a traditional ice cream scoop but smaller and ensures cookies that are all the same size. If you like BIG cookies you can use an ice cream scoop to portion your cookies. Just remember to space them further apart on the baking sheet or you will end up with just one gargantuan cookie which also sounds delicious!

The perfect cookie scoop!
