We love celebrations! As we’ve mentioned in a past post (“We’ll Celebrate Anything (and you should too!”) May 20th, 2018) we love to celebrate everything from traditional holidays to a wonderful sunny day! My birthday is on July 2nd and when I was a child my father once told me that the whole world celebrated my birthday with fireworks! I believed him and thus began my unending desire to celebrate every-single-thing!
When our children were little we’d celebrate the first and last days of school, Fridays, summer vacation, spring break, the end of each semester, and HOLIDAYS! Oh, how we love to celebrate holidays. I am that weirdo that doesn’t mind the appearance of pumpkins in August and Christmas decorations in September - in fact, I look forward to it! I suppose it goes without saying that I adore Hallmark movies and Christmas in July!
When Will and Kate (sure, we’re on a first name basis) got married several years ago we took the day off, chilled the champagne, made a traditional English tea, and got up really early to enjoy the festivities! Several days before the wedding I went to a local bakery to order a celebratory cake. The baker said, “Would you like anything written on it?” I laughed and said, “Sure. ‘Congratulations Will & Kate.’ “ He looked at me and repeated what he thought I said, “Congratulations we have a cake?” Some people just seem flummoxed by our celebrations :-) Their loss!
Last year when we were preparing for our daughter’s wedding, she and I would go to a special restaurant in Tallahassee called Sage after every decision: Found the dress? Let’s have a drink! Picked the invitations? Cheers to that! Decided on a caterer? Salute! Etc., etc., etc., I miss our trips to Sage and the many French 75’s we consumed! Good times!
So, we encourage you to celebrate too because life is short, too short, in fact! I think I can comfortably tell you that you won’t be sorry that you added a little joy to your everyday: Got a raise? Cheers! It’s your birthday? Cheers! Bought some fabulous new socks? Cheers!! Enjoy every single moment!
(Want to visit Sage yourself and order a French 75? You can find them and their newly expanded bar at www.sagetallahassee.com, 3534 Maclay Boulevard South, Tallahassee, FL)
French 75 at Home
1 ounce of gin
½ ounce of fresh lemon juice
About a teaspoon or two of simple syrup (depending on how sweet you like your drinks)
2 ounces of champagne, or other sparkling wine
In a cocktail shaker mix the gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup with ice. Shake about 30 seconds. Strain into a champagne glass (I prefer the old fashioned coupe style glass), and top with champagne. Cut a piece of lemon peel and drop it in the glass for garnish. Cheers!
I love the idea of celebrating no matter how big or small. I completely agree with the seeing fall decorations in the stores in mid summer and then there is ALL the wonderful Christmas decorations that appear very shortly after Fourth of July. I feel like the opportunities I have to get together with friends or family is a celebration and I am always happy to raise my glass to that ( whether my beverage is iced tea or a margarita) and cherish whatever amount of time I get to spend with them.
