Book Reviews: Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine

Is there nothing better than a good book? True! I just completed one of the best I’ve ever read: Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman.

Here’s all the reasons this book was such a joy:

I love when a book is universal. I love not knowing if the people and the setting are across the street or across the world. While this book is set in Scotland it has an appeal of being in my own backyard. I love the feeling of knowing, that has humans in the world, we are all so much the same with the same issues and problems. Somehow, I find that very comforting.

The main character, Eleanor (beautiful name, by the way), is a cantankerous delight that you easily fall in love with in the earliest pages. She is a hero that you start pulling for early on in the novel. She is a person that you cannot help but love.

The author, Gail Honeyman - what a fabulous last name - uses words in a beautiful and compelling way that I found amazing! Throughout the book, I found myself reading and rereading paragraphs simply because her use of language is so beautiful. I love when a person can weave a story so clearly that I feel like I am in the book myself!

I bought my copy at a local bookstore (Shop Local!) in downtown Thomasville called The Bookshelf. It is a delightful store with knowledgeable employees who actually read books themselves! They can direct you to a copy of Eleanor Oliphant or suggest something else.
