I am a sucker for romantic comedies, and this book read like a really, really good one. Evvie (rhymes with Chevy) has lost her husband...who she was getting ready to leave. Her life is turned upside down and she goes on a journey of self discovery that includes finding out who she really is and meeting someone who may just be Mr. Right.
What I liked about this book is that it didn’t shy away from complicated feelings about marriage and love. Evvie feels guilty about not missing her husband and grapples with the relief and freedom she feels when she “should” be grieving. The author also tackles male/female friendships, and while I am a staunch When Harry Met Sally believer that these are few and far between, she does a good job taking the reader on a journey through complicated adult friendships.
Though it deals with heavy subject matter, the book remains light without being fluffy.
Linda Holmes writes in a fun, casual style that kept me interested and rooting for the main characters. If you’re a fan of rom-coms, this is the book for you!
