Air Fried Okra

Fried okra is a southern classic. I will use any excuse to eat it by the handful and am always glad I did. If you’ve never been a fan of okra because of the slime, then 1) it wasn’t cooked correctly, and 2) try it fried!

There are a few different ways to change the breading to your liking. In this recipe, I used flour and Italian bread crumbs, but you could easily use cornmeal, regular breadcrumbs, or maybe even panko. This works with fresh or frozen okra, but I prefer fresh. You can cut the okra into rounds or halves- it works either way!

  1. Wash and cut your okra.

  2. In a bowl, whisk together some flour, salt, and pepper.

  3. In another bowl, whisk together a large egg and a splash of milk.

  4. In a third bowl, place your breadcrumbs.

I am not using exact measurements here- you’ll need to eyeball it and adjust depending on how much okra you’re making.

  1. Dredge your okra slices through each bowl (flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs).

  2. Place to the side while you finish all pieces.

  3. Air fry at 350 degrees for about 8 minutes. Do not stack your okra- you need these to be in an even layer to cook thoroughly.

    1. If you do not have an air fryer: you can easily modify this recipe for deep fat frying in oil. Be careful when frying!

I like to serve my okra with a dipping sauce on the side and plenty of salt. Enjoy!
